Commenting at the launch of the handbook in May 2009 at the national VFI conference in Galway, VFI President Val Hanley noted that: "If every pub introduced these efficiency measures & saved €4,000 Euros, over €16,000,000 could be saved in the industry.
Independent market research by Ask Chilli concluded that a staggering 88% of publicans had introduced cost saving measures within the last year. A further 67% of publicans had introduced electrical cost saving measures. 33% had reduced water usage, 11% had reduced heating costs, 10% had reduced their waste costs.
Commenting after the awards Sean Redmond noted that "to even get to the final with such illustrious competition was a major achievement, never mind receiving a commendation from the judging panel".
Professor Owen Lewis, CEO, SEI said, In this the sixth year of the Energy Awards, SEI is particularly pleased at the number and quality of this years entries. We saw a marked increase in entries from smaller businesses that are reaping the rewards of energy management. This is further proof that energy efficiency is on the agenda of every business throughout the country regardless of size or sector.
